Today was a very special day in Loreto Letterkenny as we opened our memorial garden in memory of our late Principal Ms Nora Friel.
The idea for this beautiful garden came from our senior leadership team under the leadership of our Head Girl Katherine Kelly and our Deputy Head Girl Katie Harvey. The leadership team have been working on this beautiful tribute for the past five months. They called the garden “The Evergreen Garden” as their hope is that this garden will always bloom in memory of the wonderful Ms Nora Friel who was taken from us after a short illness last November.
This garden is a space for the whole school community to reflect on Ms. Friel’s legacy and remember this special lady who had a kind word and a smile for all. Ms Friel was a great believer in the power of a cup of tea. She shared many cups of tea with all of us here in Loreto hence the beautiful lilac teapot sitting proudly in the garden.
Ms Friel’s family, close friends and colleagues gathered for the official opening of the garden and many tributes were paid to Ms Friel from Katherine, Katie, Sr Gerardine and Minister Joe Mc Hugh.
The senior leadership team lead a poignant tribute to Ms Friel releasing red balloons to say their final farewell. We would like to thank all of the people who made this possible from our sponsors to all the individuals who gave willingly of their time to bring this special space to fruition.
